Why Can’t I Move My Neck to the Left?

It’s not uncommon to experience difficulty or pain when trying to turn your head or neck. Neck mobility issues usually stem from muscle tightness or joint problems in the cervical spine. Muscle Tightness

Poor Posture

Whiplash Injury

Whiplash from car accidents or sports collisions can sprain the muscles and ligaments of the neck. Turning the head to the left or right may aggravate the injured tissues. Whiplash may also involve vertebrae being knocked out of proper alignment, limiting range of motion. Stiff Neck

Sleeping in an uncomfortable position often leads to a stiff, painful neck. Contracting a virus can also make neck muscles tender and inflamed. With stiff neck, trying to look to either side is usually uncomfortable. Apply ice packs to relieve muscle spasms and take an over-the-counter pain medication. The stiffness and pain should subside within a few days.
